Free Bright Blossom Crochet Pattern

This is a work-in-progress. I think it's going to be a blanket for my daughter's bunk bed. I'm doing it in bright rainbow colors...you may want to choose more toned-down colors for your own blossoms! Here's the basic flower pattern and joining instructions so you can create your own masterpieces!

Materials for One Flower:
Small amounts worsted weight yarn in yellow and contrasting color (CC)
Size H crochet hook

Size: 4" in diameter

Rnd 1: With yellow, ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring, 12 sc in ring, join w sl st in 1st sc (12 sc).

Rnd 2: Ch 3, (work 1st half of one dc in same sc) 3 times, yo and draw yarn through all 4 loops on hk, * ch 4, sk 1sc, (work first half of one dc) 3 times in next sc, yo and draw yarn through all 4 loops  on hk,  rep from * around, ending w ch 4, sk last sc, join w sl st in top of beg ch 3, fo (6 clusters plus 6 ch 4 sp).

Rnd 3: Join CC w sc in ch 4 sp before joining sl st of Rnd 2, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc, sc) in same ch 4 loop, * in next ch 4 loop work (sc, 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc, sc) rep from * around, join w sl st in 1st sc, fo (6 petals).

Joining motifs together:
To join motifs together, make 1 complete motif, then next motifs as follows:

Rnds 1-2: Work same as Rnd 1 of completed motif.

Rnd 3: Join CC w sc in ch 4 sp before joining sl st of Rnd 2, (2 dc, ch 2  in same sp), holding motifs wrong sides together, sl st in any ch 3 sp of completed motif, ch 2, (2 dc, sc) in same in same ch 4 sp of working motif, in next ch 4 sp, (sc, 2 dc, ch 2), sl st in next ch 3 sp of finished motif, ch 2, (2 dc, sc) in same ch 4 sp of working motif, (sc, 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc, sc) in each of next ch 4 loops of working motif, join w sl st in 1st sc, fo. When joining motifs at more than 2 petals, join them using the (sc, 2 dc, ch 2) in ch 4 sp of working motif, sl st in corresponding ch 3 sp of completed motif, then (ch 2, 2 dc, sc) in same ch 4 sp of working motif method. When joining at petal intersections ch 2, sl st beneath joined petals rather than through the ch 3 sp, ch 2 and finish working motif petal, fo.
